Spotlight: Both turf runs over 7f on good ground; untroubled to win at Newmarket and Haydock (early July), the latest a weak affair at long odds-on (gelded beforehand); posted a smart RPR last time and he's dangerously unexposed now into a handicap.
Spotlight: Confined to good or quicker ground since finishing second on good to soft on last season's debut; easily a career best when winning by 2l at Newbury in April (7f; 6lb lower) and had another lengthy break prior to finishing a respectable fifth at Goodwood; arrives here a fresh horse and wouldn't be exposed just yet.
Spotlight: Last year's two wins were at 6f (one on good to soft) but this is looking his trip after competitive shows in strong handicaps at Sandown and Goodwood; it was a deep race last time and two of the three ahead of him dominated an Ascot handicap last weekend; firmly in the mix.
Spotlight: Sole defeat came on heavy ground in last season's Group 2 Mill Reef; made all at Kempton 18 days ago (7f novice) and the front two came well clear; the runner-up has since let that form down but this colt clearly brings potential into handicaps.
Spotlight: Only real blip this season came in the Britannia at Royal Ascot; now on a career-high mark after a 3lb rise for winning narrowly at Sandown (7f, soft) and could do with the forecast showers arriving in time; fair shout if they did.
Spotlight: Won two minor events in May (7f; good to firm/good) and found some trouble in running when 13-2 for a big-field handicap at Glorious Goodwood (good to soft); easy to give him another chance off this mark.
Spotlight: Acts on any ground; an upwardly mobile 3yo who is a dual winner at this trip and had too much class for mostly older opposition back over 6f at Brighton two weeks ago; raised 4lb but looks a good bet to give his running.
Spotlight: Consistent form in six races last season (all bar one at 7f), proving himself worthy of this sort of mark; absent since finishing third to Back In Black at Newbury in April but has the form to feature if on his game.
Spotlight: Debut winner last year and has gradually found his form this campaign, doubling his tally when trying 7f for the first time at Newbury (good; unraced on slower); that was no more than workmanlike and he's 4lb higher in a deeper race.
Spotlight: Nursery winner at two but a sharp improver this season with two wins including one over C&D; needed a stronger pace when his hat-trick bid came up shy and the drop back to 6f found him when tried in cheekpieces (now removed) at the Shergar Cup; remains of interest off this sort of mark.
Spotlight: Didn't appear to have all that much in hand at Newmarket (good to soft) or Southwell (again 7f; AW) but the runner-up last time has franked the form in an Ascot classified race; this still demands his best yet off a 5lb higher mark.
Spotlight: Strike-rate of 3-8, with one of those wins on good to soft; endured a wide trip when placed at Chester last time but was beaten 4l and whether he wants 7f remains to be seen (confined to sprinting thus far).
Spotlight: Finished in close proximity to smart horses as a 2yo and made a successful reappearance (having been gelded) at Newmarket in June (7f, good to firm; 4lb lower); finished last at Ascot two months ago (1m) but got upset in the preliminaries and raced freely; wouldn't be exposed just yet; has won on good to soft but disappointed on soft.
Spotlight: Ran in the Gimcrack after his winning debut at two; 0-5 this campaign and wasn't overly convincing with his finishing effort when close up at Chester and likewise with his stamina upped to 7f at Goodwood; others appeal more.
Spotlight: Sole win in six came in a big-field 7f nursery at York last August off 5lb lower; below that level in his subsequent races but he might strip fitter for the recent Ascot run.
Spotlight: Won twice last season; reappearance was encouraging, then ran at Royal Ascot before finding trouble in running when close up at Chester; easy to forgive last time as well given that was his AW debut and he finished lame; has a bit to prove over this far as peak form is at shorter, but responded well to cheekpieces when tried once last season and he could be a big price.
Spotlight: Group 3 win last season didn't help his handicap mark and this season is turning into a struggle, with this headgear combination tried last time at Chester.
Spotlight: Lots to like about his profile at two (6f/7f) but has finished well down the field in 7f/1m handicaps this term, latterly tried in cheekpieces.
Spotlight: Only 1-10 but running better this season than his form figures may suggest and contested a Group 2 on his penultimate run; he's not without hope off a reduced mark, provided conditions don't soften up.

Indian Springs and Sarab Star are dangerously unexposed handicap debutants who have to be feared, as does El Matador who didn't get a fair crack at the whip when single-figure odds for his handicap debut. Others to consider are Defence Minister (second choice), whose fourth at Glorious Goodwood looked strong form at the time and is even stronger now, and at lengthier odds BRIGHTON BOY. The selection was a good 2yo who for varying reasons has yet to do himself justice this season and the return of cheekpieces is no bad thing. Another crack at 7f is also worth exploring.[Alistair Jones] Show less
